Does Social Media Ruin Relationships?
Updated: Jan 4, 2020
Let’s be honest, at one point or another we have found ourselves either updating our relationship status on Facebook, removing pics of our ex from Instagram, or following a potential boo’s every move on Snapchat. Social media not only has taken over how we view others’ and their relationships, but how we portray our own relationships and ourselves.
I recently polled my IG friends asking if they felt social media ruins relationships. The results showed most women think social media has a negative impact on their relationships. Whereas, majority of men expressed social media does not interfer with their relationships at all.
An article on Forbes.com* mentioned social media has a way of enhancing our insecurities, resulting in friction within our relationships. We also have a tendency to compare ourselves to what we see on other social media accounts. This not only creates a false sense of reality, but it also causes a competitive nature within our relationships.
At the end of the day, I think instead of updating our statuses and posting baecation pics, we should put away the phones, truly enjoy each other’s company, and just love on one another. That is what truly matters.
